As the countdown on the end of the year 2008 approaches, we are bracing ourselves for the 2009. How time flies...it only seems yesterday that we have celebrated the New Year that is almost now over and...here we go again, ready to meet the New Year.
As I look back into 2008, I cannot help but exhale. Yes, literally and figuratively---EXHALE! It was a tremendously challenging year for all of us. The Borlongan Family, in general, had gone through some tough and rough times...hopefully, the worst part is almost over. Exhale indeed because we come out of it in one piece...that we did not lose our sanity. However hard 2008 was, it is bittersweet to part ways with it. Part of me says, goodbye and good riddance...but part of me says...stay a bit more, thanks for the memories.
Yes, the rough and tumble of 2008 did not only impact us, but the whole world as well. We have seen the economy spiraling down...bringing with it even the behemoth companies. The dreaded word--- RECESSION, that many of our younger generations never even heard of, let alone, experienced until now. Tougher times call for tougher measures, as the world leaders try to combat the global economic crisis. One more word that looms in every one's mind-- DEPRESSION! How could this happen again? Scary isn't it? luckily, we are not there yet...well..not quite at least.
Through it all there is a ray of hope. A new President-- the first African-American President, a history in the making...the dawning of a new era. Hopefully, he can turn things around...however, he is only human, and he cannot carry all the heavy load on his own. Hopefully, with his cabinet choices and the other levels in the government would work together for the betterment of all.
Time to face the New Year again. I hope that even when things are still going to be bad that we can all go through this together, just as we have done in 2008.
